Aveda Tulasara Awakening Ritual

I was stoked after getting to know about new Tulasara™ advanced performance skin care at Aveda's store in Capitol Piazza. It is more than just the product itself but a ritual which is inspired by Ayurveda.

The Tulasara™series includes the Radiant Awakening Ritual and Concentrates.  Both products have now become part of my morning ritual, from the moment I woke out of bed after reading my daily devotional.

Tulasāra™ means 'moving toward balance' in Sanskrit.

Tulasara™ Radiant Awakening Ritual

I thought that dry brushing is only confined to our main body areas and didn't know that it could be extended across to the facial area. But of course, using a smaller and gentler brush with softer bristles just to promote skin renewal and exfoliation.

When it comes to facial brushing, there are certain steps and movements which you can follow through to get the best results. When one of Aveda's Day Maker carried out the Awakening ritual on half of my face, I could instantly how lifted and glowy my skin looks after the ritual as compared to the other half which is not contact with any of the product. At that very instant, I knew there was something really amazing about facial dry brushing and the use of the oleation oil.

The Ritual

The 2-step ritual which took about 5 minutes begins by gently brushing dry skin with the Tulasara™ Radiant Facial Dry Brush to exfoliate. I will be coming up with a video real soon and how I use the brush to stimulate lymphatic drainage at my face and neck areas.

The second step is to perform a facial massage using our nurturing plant oil-infused Tulasara™ Radiant Oleation Oil to help stimulate microcirculation and nourish the skin. Leave the oil on your skin for about 3 to 5 minutes before washing it off with a gentle cleanser and some water.

This ritual is to be done right after waking up from bed, before cleansing your face. And it's a great way to perk you skin up in the morning, right after waking up.

The Oil

The oleation oil is a 100% naturally derived blend of six plant oils -  certified organic sesame, sunflower, and jojoba seed oils, combined with rose hip, apricot kernel and sweet almond oils. And oleation is part of the Ayurvedic cleanse where oils are being used to loosen the toxins from the body and to bring about detoxification. Thus I believe that natural oils have to be used for this external oleation where the oils are applied to the skin. On the other hand, internal oleation requires a person to drink the oil to cleanse the body internally.

The Brush

The small handy brush has a patent-pending brush design which features ultra-soft nylon bristles formed in rounded, massage peaks. It follows the contour of the face and I really like that it is gentle enough for the skin yet it is rough enough to sweep off any dead skin cells with the fine bristles.

It is important to note that dry brushing needs to be done on a dry skin so you need your cleanse your skin before this step. The best time to exfoliate is in the morning where your skin repairs and renews while you're asleep.

After every 7  days, I would rinse the brush with water then leave it to dry. It is crucial that the brush is clean, dry and not damp or bacteria will start to breed on it.

After a good brush, then massage the oleation oil into your skin and at this point, your skin is ready to absorb anything nourishing. Wash off the oil after leaving it onto the skin for a few minutes. You will begin to notice that your skin is starting to glow. In that few short minutes, you make breakfast or coffee to fill up the time. For me, I like to read my devotions or change up to my work clothes to get ready. No time is wasted!

Tulasara™ Concentrates

Right after the ritual, I dive right to my Tulasara Calm concentrate. I used this in place of my moisturizer. With my skin getting so prone to acne these days, I try to stick only to a few products which are suitable for sensitive skin.

Tulasara™ Concentrates are 97% naturally-derived* advanced performance treatment products and are made available in three targeted formulas: Firm, Bright, and Calm. Each concentrate contains certified organic ginger extract, a traditional Ayurvedic ingredient. For my skin type, I needed the Calm concentrate which helps soothe the skin and reduces visible redness over time.

The Calm concentrate formula is also much lighter and watery as compared to the other concentrates. Thus, it is highly recommended for those with acne-prone skin.

Each 30 ml bottle of concentrate contains more than 100,000 red raspberry plant stem cells known for their restorative powers! This concentrate doesn't just nourish and moisturize but also to repair the skin. Naturally, the skin's barrier will strengthen and the skin resilience will increase over time with long-term usage.

My skin loves this stuff. It always drinks up the concentrate so quickly within a second.

I hope to share more about this new series from Aveda that has helped me transform my skincare routine for the better. Instead of using scrubs, I can now use the dry brushing technique for a gentle exfoliation. With that, I don't even need to stock up on facial scrubs as I could probably use the brush for years! In a way, it is eco-friendly and saves the environment. Green beauty, is in fact, really affordable and cost-saving.
